Boutique Hotel Stadthalle Vienna - the first city hotel worldwide with zero-energy balance
The environmentally-conscious hotel in the middle of Vienna
- A reference in the field of Hotels / Gastronomie Österreich
The head office of the eco-hotel in Vienna was expanded in 2009 in order to have a passive heating construction with a zero-energy balance. With a photovoltaic system, solar panels and heating pumps it is the first zero-energy balance hotel in the world in an urban setting. The new part of the eco-hotel was built with a cement construction, necessary for a zero-energy balance house, and corresponding facade and was expanded as an individual building structure. Both buildings are connected via the cellar and the ground floor. The energy needed for the heating and ventilation systems is supplied through the photovoltaic system. Controlled heating and cooling are accomplished via concrete core activation. In addition, synthetic pipes were laid in the solid ceilings and walls, through which the water circulates.
In total, 93 m² photovoltaic system, 130 m² solar panel surface as well as a heating pump create electricity, hot water and a pleasant room temperature. The building's own fountain delivers cool energy and supplies the heating pump system with ground water. This water is only used for flushing toilets. A 130 m² termal solar panel system serves as fresh air pre-heating for the ventilation and for hot water preparation. The necessary air exchange takes place through the living space ventilation device with 90% heat recovery.
These are all reasons why the eco-hotel, being the first hotel in Vienna, was recognized with the EU Environmental Award and received one more green award.
